请根据下面短文回答第61——65题:

In 1870s rich people began to speak of spending weekends in the country visiting friends. For most people back then, however, the workday was six days long.

Car maker Henry Ford was the first person in the United States to start a workweek of 5 days.

He did that in 1926. By 1940 it had become common for most Americans to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. For many people Saturday night is the happiest time of the weekend and the week.

Anything and everything can happen(发生) on Saturday night. People go dancing; they visit friends and have parties. They drink much alcohol(酒精饮料). They sleep, and watch television.

People do the same things on other nights of the week too, but they do them more often on Satur-day night.

On Saturday night cinemas sell more tickets. It is also the biggest night for places that sell alcoholic drinks, That is one reason why most fights and car accidents(事故) are on Saturday night.

Is there anything people do not like about the weekend? A study of 1,000 Americans found

that half would gladly have a more day of free time. The only thing wrong with the weekend, they think, is that it does not last longer.

If you’re invited to a friend’s home for dinner, keep in mind these rules to be polite. First of all, arrive on time ( but not earlier). It’s OK to be 10 or 15 minutes late but not 45 minutes. When you’re invited to someone’s home for a meal, it’s polite to bring a small gift. Flowers or candy are always nice. If you have something made in your own country, your host(主人) would certainly enjoy receiving that as a gift most.

What do you do if you’re served a food that you don’t like or cannot eat? If your host doesn’t say anything about what you aren’t eating, then you shouldn’t, either. Simply eat what you can and hope that no one sees what you left. If you are questioned, you may have to admit(承认) that you don’t eat meat (or whatever), but you can also say that you’ve enjoyed the other foods and have had "more than enough" to eat.

Don’t leave immediately (立即) after dinner, and don’t stay too long, either. When your friends seem to be getting tired and running out of conversations, you’d better leave. The next day, call or write a thank-you note to say how much you enjoyed the evening.
