题目People have different views on how to reduce traffic congestion. Some think that governments should build more train and subway lines, while others think that building more roads and widening existing roads will reduce traffic congestion. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
参考范文While speed is one of the reasons why modern society prospers, traffic congestion today can be the tumor that poisons. And to save us from the seating waste of time behind steering wheel, different solutions have been given by people.
It couldn’t be more easy for a bunch of people to realize that the roads are not enough or too narrow to the fact of traffic jam, and their solution is to build more roads and widen the existing roads, which seems to be an upright cure to the symptom. But it’s also easy for them to come to another fact that the cost of this solution would be an immense abyss, provided that a lot of heated spots of traffic jams are in the top centers of cities where every inch of land must have already been occupied with blocks and constructions on the surface and the land price is shooting high.
Then, what about more trains and subway lines underground, as many other would propose so? Well, this could be the way out, since it is faster and does carry the loads. However, the concern is that trains and subways have less flexibility than other transportation as the former only shuttle on fixed schedule and between certain locations so that they would be laid in waste after traffic peaks.
In my opinion, any hope to eradicate the tumor with single solution could result in prodigality without effect. And to prescribe for the syndrome of congestion, we have to probe into the essential cause of disease, which is time itself. Traffic peaks exist because of people’s overlapped schedule of commuting. Therefore, only by staggering the work schedule and allowing more flextime can we root out the problem rather than just to build either more roads or subway lines.
